CHICAGO Nick Fairley pleaded his case with officials, maintaining he didn't deserve a penalty for tossing Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown to the ground.As he made his way back to the huddle, with Chicago near midfield on a desperation final drive that ended with McCown's 11 yard touchdown pass to Brandon Marshall, Fairley told himself he had to atone for his silly personal foul.On the next snap, Fairley dropped McCown for a 3 yard sack. A few plays later, when the Bears lined up for the game tying two point conversion their second attempt actually after Detroit's Willie Young roughed McCown on the first try Fairley made his biggest stop of the season. He split the gap between center Matt Garza and left guard Matt Slauson and met running back Matt Forte almost as soon as he took a handoff from McCown.BOX SCORE: Lions 21, Bears 19Q: Was starting Cutler the wrong call?Forte went down in a heap a few yards behind the line of scrimmage, and Fairley high stepped his way downfield, celebrating his lead preserving tackle and another improbable Lions victory, 21 19, at Soldier Field."I knew I had messed up," Fairley said in the locker room after the game. "I got to play smarter and not put my team in situations like that. Just knowing that I had almost cost my team by that play there, I just knew I had to go make another one. In my mindset, I was just determined to make another play and it came so I made it."The Lions (6 3) swept the season series with the Bears for the first time since 2007 and took over sole possession of first place in a crowded NFC North with the victory.The Bears and Green Bay Packers, who lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, are both a game back in the standings. But the Lions own most tie breakers against Chicago (5 3), and Green Bay is down to third string quarterback Scott Tolzien after losing backup Seneca Wallace to a groin injury Sunday."Honestly, it's too early in the season to be really worrying about who's in first place," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "We came out with a victory on the road against a really tough team. It was a hard fought win. Proud of the players, but that's the only thing that it means today. First place, you don't get any prizes for first place nine games into the season."Maybe not, but the Lions are now in prime position to win their first division title since 1993 and make the playoffs for the second time in three seasons.Calvin Johnson scored two touchdowns Sunday, and Reggie Bush ran for a game high 105 yards to spark a balanced offensive attack. Ndamukong Suh joined Fairley in delivering huge plays on defense, and the Lions held Forte to a season low 33 yards rushing."I Authentic Pablo Sandoval Jersey think the most important thing is that we own our own destiny," Suh said. "We don't want to have to rely on anybody else to take care of us or help us get to the next level, which is the playoffs. And we did a great job of just coming in here to Chicago and taking care of business. It wasn't the best way to do it, but we got it done."Suh tipped a pass at the line of scrimmage that linebacker DeAndre Levy intercepted in the end zone to snuff out a Bears scoring drive just before halftime, and the Lions withstood some tense moments in Sunday's fourth quarter to pull out the win.Matthew Stafford completed 18 of 35 passes for 219 yards, but he sailed an interception early in the fourth quarter with the Lions clinging to a 14 10 lead.Bears safety Chris Conte returned the pick to the Lions' 9 yard line, and Forte appeared Youth Matt Cain Jersey to put the Bears ahead one play later when he ran around left end for a touchdown. Soon after, Young was called for a helmet to helmet hit on McCown after the first failed two point conversion attempt Young disputed the call after the game before Fairley stuffed Forte of a misdirection handoff out of the shotgun."We had a run pass option," Bears coach Marc Trestman said of the second two point attempt. "The defense gave us run, we just didn't block it. We just didn't execute. With our football today, we didn't execute today, offensively, like we needed to, particularly in the running game."Cutler completed 21 of 40 passes for 250 yards before leaving, and Jeffery (nine catches, 114 yards) and Marshall (seven catches, 139 yards, two TDs) both had big days for the Bears.
